Lisa Wilson, ’79, and James Wilson, ’77
Medical school is a vital part of a person’s road to becoming a physician. However, it is not the only important part. With all the changes taking place in medicine and health care, it is critical that undergraduate pre-med students learn updated and more pertinent pre-health coursework.
Through their generosity, Dr. James Wilson, ’77, and his wife, Lisa Dolik Wilson, ’79, have established the Lisa and James Wilson Institute for Medicine. The Institute supports all students interested in a health-related career—from the practice of medicine to nursing to all of the allied professions. Students benefit from academic and career advising; workshops and speakers; assistance in identifying volunteer, shadowing, and internship opportunities; and encouragement for ongoing experiential learning.
Lisa and Jim hope that this evolution in the teaching of pre-health can assist high-performing students to gain entrance into top-tier medical schools. It will be equally important to assure that all capable Albion students who aspire to become physicians can realize their dreams by placing them at a competitive advantage over those in peer institutions through more relevant and effective educational programs.
The Wilson’s gift will enable Albion College to evolve with a rapidly-changing medical education environment, and to be recognized as a leader in preparing undergraduate students for their medical careers.
