Letter from the President and Chairman

Fellow Britons,

It is a great honor to serve you—the entire Briton Family. We are a broad and diverse group that is inclusive of not only alumni, but of every person who holds Albion College in high regard for the profound impact it makes.

In 1835, Albion College was founded on the frontier of Michigan Territory with a single primary purpose: to enhance, enrich, and empower its community.

Well into the 21st century, that purpose is just as relevant. We still imagine ourselves as a frontier college. The frontiers are different—driven by intellectual, societal, and technological forces—and our mission is much broader, but our founders’ extraordinary efforts serve as an enduring guide.

Together over the past five years we have pursued that purpose with a fervent determination. We have witnessed the grit and gumption of our graduates—Brits who lead some of our country’s most storied corporations, shape the pioneering medicine that will transform health care tomorrow, educate our youngest future leaders, nourish our spirits with inspiring art, and serve our communities as thoughtful and inclusive citizens. At home in Albion we have watched, with a keen eye, those same attributes take root and grow.

As we look toward the College’s 185th birthday, we are launching the public phase of Albion College’s $100 million comprehensive campaign. An effort that began quietly in 2014 will shape this College’s future—because of your belief in, and commitment to, our purpose.

We are humbled by your trust and confidence, but not surprised. Instead we are reminded once again that Britons are audacious and bold. Individually and together, we dream no small dreams. Io Triumphe!

Sincerely,

Mauri Ditzler J.
